Replication

  • I need to add Replication to my SQL server 2008 (not R2). I cannot find if I need to reboot after adding it through setup - the difference between doing it during the day or a Saturday night chore. Will someone please advise me on this ... TIA!

Also if anyone has replicated to the cloud (Amazon) ... any thoughts or links you can share would be great!

  • I'm guessing you want to add the feature to the already existing instance.

Even if it didn't require a service restart I wouldn't risk it. Arrange to do it during a quiet period as what the installer does once on a test rig does not guarantee what it'll do in production.

In theory it shouldn't need to do a restart as most of the new functionality will be new binary's (agents). All of the system procs should already exist in the resource database.

  • Great - thanks for the advice!
