Account for SQLServer services

  • Hi,

Just got some servers where SQL and SQLAGENT services are running with Local_System or a user member of our Domain Admins group which is a very powerful account.

I want to create only 1 account to take care of all SQL services. What and the minimal right this new domain user should have?

    Thanks,

    Rem

  • I generally simply add the login as an AD user with no special rights.

At the server level if you change the permissions from the configuration mansger it should handle the local rights like Log on as a service. You may have to add Lock Pages in memory yourself.

Also I am unsure of whether the user is them granted permissions on the directories. I tend to give the user full rights on the paths containing databases and you might have to give the user rights to the SQL structure containing the system files and the binaries..

    Thats about it..
