Nice post. Agree with you. We only get one life, so enjoy it while we can. 🙂
Thanks

Yep, you definitely have to keep it all in perspective. No one that I know of anyway, on their deathbed at the end of their life has said "I just wish I had spent more time at the office.":-D
"Technology is a weird thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other. ...:-D"

As I approach my golden years I know that what Steve discusses is important but impossible. Whenever one part of life takes up more time another part must give it up.
It is not balance over time that is important. It is balance at any given point in time. One's mental stability and sense of happiness stems from being in balance now.

Good article Steve, except for the one life comment ... way off base there.

Thank you, Mr. Jones! The world spins regardless of our individual stressors; learning to step back and celebrate the successes, rather than dwelling on the occasional flop is extremely valuable. Balance is a good thing! Thanks again!

Steve,
Thanks for the insightful post. We all have to remember 'multitasking' is for hardware and software.
Hope I and others remember that.
As Mother Teresa said, "We are human beings, not human doings".

Very true, but it's both. You want to remain mentally balanced, and overall happy on a short term basis. Maybe not every day, or even every week, but every month for sure.
However you also do want to improve yourself, either in your field or your health/hobby/family, and you make time for those things at different periods in your life. Perhaps you really want to improve your golf game, or really become better at SSRS. That might be a goal for this year, which comes at the expense of letting some other things be less important for a year.
