I am currently working on a problem where people are getting disconnected from SQL server. There does not seem to be any cause for the problem.
It started after we moved to a Virtual server for SQL.
I have run a trace on the connection but all that it says is connection terminated. No other information.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I am just looking for a starting point to attack the problem -- any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would have a first look at the networking side. How does remote desktop to the server work for instance, does that work fine?

What kind of VM? Is this VMWare?
Do you see any events in the tasks and events tab of vSphere?
What do your application, system, and sql server logs say on that machine around the time of the disconnects?

We are using VMWare here. I will checking the logs now.
It is periodic. I can have 2 people sitting next to each other all day long and 1 person gets dropped 5 times in 2 hours where the other person is not dropped for 5 days.

Are they using different logins? Though they are sitting next to each other do they use the same switch? Any other users have issues or just these two?
