Applying Service Pack

    I have only worked with single instance of SQL, so I am unsure about something. If we install another instance of SQL on a box that already has service pack 2 installed do I have to apply the service pack to the new instance as well or will it just automatically inherit it?

    You will need to apply the service pack to the new instance. Each instance has its own set of files.

    Thanks for the quick reply Lynn. Having no experience with multiple instances, could you possibly point me to some good reference material (other than books on line of course). 😀
