Dear Friends,
Recently I went through an article about installing SQL Sever 2012 using a configuration.ini file. This procedure basically standardize deployment across multiple server machines. In my work environment, I have to install SQL Server 2012 in a laptop (Windows 7 Professional) and a windows 2008 Server R2 SP1. Would this Configuration.ini option succeed even though the OS is different?
Appreciate your inputs...
Thanks

I haven't tried to move a configuration.ini between Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, only between two Windows Server 2008 R2. But I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are basically desktop and server versions of the same core.

You might be interested in SQL FineBuild. This can install SQL standard builds on any OS from XP onwards. It can definitely cope with the differences between W2008 R2 and Win7.

Thank you very much for the information. Never heard about this before and will setup and try to install in different OS's.
