Has this always happened or just recently started? I have seem COM errors popup in SSMS before and the only work-around I have found is to close and reopen SSMS to resolve the error. It is like it gets an error instantiating a class so every time after that it will fail as well, so closing and reopening the app seems to be the only way to clear it.

Not that I have seen, but then again I do not see it THAT often. Curious, is the version of SSMS the same version/service pack as the SQL instance you are connecting to?

I used to get this a lot - same work around - close SSMS & reopen.
Patching SSMS to SP1 or 2 seemed to have stopped it happening.
