The SQL Pass community summit is just around the corner. There is so little time and so much to do. Last year I made a commitment that I would put aside some volunteering time for the SQLPass organization. Till now I have been able to keep my word. This is the TO DO list of mine.
First timers
This year I volunteered to be a Big brother for the first time attendees for the PASS summit. I have a great bunch of first timers. I have been sending regular emails to the first timers and keep them informed of all the activities that will happen during the summit. From the eight first timers assigned to me, at least four of them will be going for the dinner arranged by Steve Jones and Andy Warren. Couple of the first timers will be attending the SSC party that will be held during that time as well.
Program Committee
I am also volunteering my time for the program committee. We started with abstract reviews. Our team worked like a well oiled machine. We were able to meet all our dead lines with days to spare. Our next job is to start the power point reviews. I am sure that will also go smoothly. We do not have that much time for this though. I am quite confident we will be able to meet that short dead line as well.
Nomination Committee
This is the most sensitive volunteering work I have ever done. We have to be very careful at what we do. It is better not to write much about it for the time being.
SQL Saturday
Our SQL Server user group from Curacao is arranging a SQL Saturday for next year. It will be in the month of February. I have to finish couple of documents and fill up a form so that we can get our website running. Please stay tuned for more details.
Chapter Leader duties
I have to make sure that the site gets updated reflecting the details for the next meeting. But doing the job of chapter leader is no big deal now. I have been running this chapter for two years now. I am hoping that next year someone else will take over this job.
During the Summit
While in Seattle, there are so many things to do. I have to attend the CL meeting; SQL Saturday meeting, two pre cons and most probably work with the NomCom. I also have to make sure that the first timers get their value for the money.
