We are using a scale-out implementation of reporting services where the report server where the web component sits is different from the server hosting the ReportServer databases. Both are on SQL 2008 SP3.
We would like to migrate the instance hosting the ReportServer databases to a new SQL-2012 instance, but keep the web server on SQL 2008.
Does anyone know if reporting services would still work with the ReportServer databases on SQL 2012 and the web part on SQL 2008?
Has anyone tried it?

I haven't tried it but it makes sense that it would work so long as the compatibility mode does not change for the RS databases.

I have done this between SSRS 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2005 for the databases.
So in theory it should work OK on 2012 and 2008 R2
