Hi all
I have x64 windows machine with an install of x64 SQL 2008 R2. I have gone into configuration manager where I have SQL Native Client (32bit) and SQL Native Client (which I assume is 64bit).
Now I wanted to create an Alias and as such assumed I would create it under the 64bit SQL Native Client, however this doesn't work but when I create it under the 32bit client it does.
Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks

Ok this seems to be something to do with SSMS. I was using SSMS as my test application to connect to the remote instance, and this required the alias to be created under 32bit, even though its a 64bit server weird.

This is because SSMS is a 32-bit application.
