We are running a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Active/Active cluster. We are considering going to SQL Server 2012 cluster to take advantage of the "Always On" feature (Among others). I read that to use "Always On"... you need to run SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition. We were considering going to three Virtual Servers for the new cluster. Am I correct in saying that we would need to get three Enterprise Edition licenses.... I am sure that will be a chunk of change if I am correct. Please Advise.

yes AO requires Enterprise
first question is do you plan to use vmotion with your virtual sql server(s)?
secondly how many virtual cpus per sql server VM do you plan to deploy?
thirdly how many physical cores does the host server have?
