Hi, I am working as a database administrator in a small company. I have around 8 years of working experience in sql server. I have knowledge of SQL Server 2005, 2008 database engine and little knowledge of SSRS and SSIS. I want to know what should I learn for better growth in future. Should I have knowledge of front end technologies, languages, powercell etc. Thanks in advance.

In today's corporate environment you have to manage your own DBA career. Now I am not knowledgable about your current role and company but I have mentored, managed and trained many DBA's. To be honest, 8 years work experience in a small company as a DBA you have probably learned everything you can from that position. If you have reasons to stay great, then you will need to be very self motivated to stay update, improve and excell you DBA skillsets. Read books, get certified, focus on something your small company can use (BI, Data Analysis, Performance, Process controls, IT management whatever...)
However, If you can afford or could make an opportunity to move to a mid sized or large DBA shop where you can learn from more exposure to larger systems, experienced DBA's & IT managers, project managers and coordinated operations with devlopment support, business inteligence and data warehousing; pretty much ALL THE things a small company might not have.
I believe you have to cutt your teeth at some point and do it someplace else to be a Senior DBA. I expect my Senior DBA's to know and have multiple technical experiences and to be proven leaders. Now I am not saying that small company DBA's are not capable of greatness, trust me they are. Just DBA leadership comes from experience, confidence and repeatable successful results. If you are the "Database Guy" at company A then take a chance and move to company B and become the "Database Guy" at company B, you have proven your self much more than staying a t company A.
Either way I hope you continue your DBA career and have a career plan.

I don't know if it is on your plate, but working for a small company is quite different from working for a Large Corporation. About 10 years ago, when I have about 3-4 years of DBA experience in small company, I made a move and worked for 5 years in one of the biggest insurance carriers in my state. Never regret a single day about that move.
