Web Server (IIS) Role is installed on my SQL Server Failover Cluster, Can I get rid of that?

  • Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, and I already created a Windows cluster plus my SQL Server 2008 R2 (Failover Cluster) Enterprise Edition on a 2 node active/passive (so far) cluster.

I followed an Installation guide that recommended me to install the Application server role (Which I understood because this includes the MSDTC feature).

But when I got the servers the Web Server (IIS) (role) was already installed, I wonder if I can remove this role and if this may affect the current installation of my SQL Failover cluster.

What are the implications if I left this Web Server (IIS) running? I guess that this is consuming resources from my server specifically Memory.

Well I will appreciate your comments and suggestions

    Thanks

    APA

  • Yes, definitely uninstall. Should be no issues. Having it installed opens you up to a lot more patches and a lot of security vulnerabilities.
