why transaction log backup is not possible under simple recovery model?

Because in simple recovery SQL Server truncates the log whenever it reaches a checkpoint, which makes the transactions go away.
If you want to backup the log, switch to full or bulk-logged recovery models.

In addition to what Calvo said, you won't be able to restore it if you are on simple recovery mode. So, why backing it up if you are not going to be allowed to restore it?

In simple recovery mode, log space is marked for reuse after SQL Server issues a checkpoint. In full/bulk logged recovery mode, only backup log marks the used space for reuse and not checkpoint.
