Something I have noticed is that when looking at my page writes/sec in the Buffer Manager I get spikes every 5 seconds (or thereabouts; sometimes more frequently, but generally not less frequently). The page writes go from nothing to about 3000-4000.
Lazy writes/sec are non existant
Buffer Cache Hit Ratio is 100%
Page splits / sec are normal (for us) at an average of 9
Page Life Expectancy is current sitting at 8210 and climbing
Disk queue length is averaging around 0.25
Any ideas on where I can start to isolate what is causing this? Am a wee bit lost.
Server is SQL 2008 R2 x64 Standard with 32GB Ram
Much appreciated
Regards
Troy

Don't know off the top of my head how to check this, but a swag would be CHECKPOINT. I could be wrong.

I'd agree with Lynn that is could be a Checkpoint.
Based on all the other indicators you list I wouldn't be all that concerned with it.

Okay - well thanks for the confirmation and for helping set my mind at ease....was sort of perplexed to say the least.
Thanks again
