We have a new member in our team and he needs some DBA training for SQL 2008. Does anyone have any recommendations for courses on the west coast? I think a traditional course would be best, but are SQL 2008 courses still available?

I would look for R2 training (2012 would also be viable enough).
Also, consider looking for SQL Saturday events in your area.

Buy an old MS certification book and cuddle up with BOL.

Has anyone taken classes from New Horizons? We have money for an instructor led class, so that's what I'm looking for.

Is this person completely new to SQL?
If so, then New Horizons may be fine.
Otherwise, I would rather buy a book, computer, and play around with the samples in the book.

He's pretty new to SQL Server but has worked with databases some. I'd like to get him a good introductory class. I know he'll have to do a lot of studying afterwards but I want him to have a good base.
Thanks!

New Horizons should be fine - most of it depends on the student and instructor.
