Hi Experts,
On one of my Pre-Prod server I have created a maintenance plan and in that there are full and a log backup scheduled and retention is also scheduled for one day but thing is my machine it is running out of space as the retention is not happening with the maintenance plan, My Pre-Prod is on SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition sp3(64bit). Please let me know whether it is a bug in SP3.
Thank you all in advance.

Are you appending to the same file in the maintenance plan, or are you creating a new file on each run of the plan?

I have created a Maintenance cleanup history in the same file where I have created a Backup plan.

Problem is that your appending to the same backup file which never gets purged.
Change the backup task to backup to a single file each time it runs, then you can use the clean up task to delete bak and trn files older than a day.
Or get a copy of Ola Hallengren's scripts, from the link in my signature below and use them to do your backups and deletes.
