What does the vendor requirements say? There is no chance anybody here can answer that question. We don't know what this 3rd party system you are buying does.

I have no idea what this software does so we have no idea what version of SQL will work. If you want to use their system and use SQL Express you need to ask the vendor if it will work. You said they just upgraded, check with them and see. 🙂

Check the edition limitations of Express, see if your DB requires anything that Express doesn't have.
We can't tell what the app needs

thanks for your reply,
let me ask in a different way.
suppose all three express/standard/developer fits application requirment
and we developed a application which keeps/calculate salary records of all the employee in the company,
can i use developer/express edition ( i think as i am using the application for production (INTERNAL) so i need to have standard edition installed) i canot use developer or express.
am i right?

Developer may not be used for production. Express can. Other than that, check the features and restrictions of the editions and see what your app requires.

It has to do with what features you are using. As said at least three times already, speak with the vendor. They know what their application uses, we don't. Check with google if you are unsure about which version supports certain features.
