Hello,
I have an FTP task in a SSIS package. This task has been running great for a year. But not I'm getting timeout errors when I try to run the task. When I test the connection manager, it is always a success. But the FTP task fails. I also tried creating a completely new package, but the result was the same. I have also verified the source where I'm trying to download files from is available.
There are two recent changes that may be a factor:
1) I have a new laptop, and switched from Windows XP to Windows 7
2) I switched from SQL 2008 to SQL 2008 R2
Has anyone heard of issues with the FTP task following an upgrade to the OS or SQL version?
The files I'm trying to download come from the U.S. Treasury Deptartment's Office of Foreign Assets Control. They publish lists of sanctioned terrorists and drug cartels. These are people and groups that U.S. companies are not permitted to do business with. Some people are surprised to learn there are several names inside the U.S. on the watch list. If anyone wants to try to import the files by FTP, they can be found here: ftp://ofacftp.treas.gov/fac_delim/

Solved it! (Actually, one of my co-workers pointed out the problem). When I imported the SSIS package to my new computer, somehow the use passive box in the FTP connection manager was un-checked. Not sure why that property would change when importing a package from one place to another. But now it's working again.
