SQL Admin Tool to resolve the SQL Server typical permisisons

  • Hi,

Is there any tool available called as - 'SQL Admin Tool' which helps to solve the SQL Server security related issues for Logins/service accounts, etc?

I thought it is the SSMS which is the SQL Admin tool, but looks there is a typical tool as 'SQL Admin Tool' which has the ability to restrict permisions for Logins to run SQL Server, SQL Server Agents and Jobs with specific and limited permission settings.

    Any thoughts?

The below URL doesn't seem to be too valid for Cluster Environment -

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Review_NT_rights

    Pls suggest.

    Thanks.

  • Never heard of that. It's SQL Server Management Studio and has been for quite some time. That's where you administer your server, including security. Although, you can do most of it through TSQL or SMO as well.

  • There are a number of tools that help perform Admin activities overall ( including backups and audits etc) there are some even specific to SQL Server security but I haven't come across anything called SQL Server Admin tool.

I think the closest thing to yoor post is the policy and facet features in sql 2008.
