Hi All,
I got a request to uninstall SQL Server 2008 (Only default instance is present) and re-install SQL Server 2008 again. Please find the step i have performed.
Steps Performed:
1) Uninstalled the SQL Server 2008 all components and then re-booted the server without any issues.
2) Copied the SQL Server Setup folder to C:\ and invoked the Setup.exe
3) Please find the installation screenshots
-> From the SQL Server Installation center initiated the Standalone installation.
-> Under Setup support rules screen - All the 5 rules are passed.
-> Next screen i have provided the "Product Key"
-> Next screen i have accepted the "License Terms"
-> Next screen it showed Setup Support Files i have clicked on "Install" then the step completed successfully with no Errors, and the Setup screen closed automatically 🙁
Further installation process not coming, and in the log also it's not quoted anything.
Checks Performed
1) Verified and confirmed the setup folder which i was using is correct one.
2) Performed all the pre-checks before installation.
3) Checked for any other SQL Process is running.
4) It's X64 with Windows 2008 OS.
5) Checked by rebooting but no luck.
6) Manually made Anti-Virus services disabled but no luck
7) There is only one Drive present on the server (i.e. c:\) and free space on the drive is 14gb.
8) Checked in eventvwr for any specif errors but there also no errors reported.
If any one came across this issue or any one have any ideas please let me know.
Regards,
Vijay

Have you attempted to reinstall the product since? What happened? Are you running this with an account that is an administrator on the machine? After the setup files installed completely did you click 'Next' or did you accidentally click 'Cancel' which is right next to it?

There is a setup folder under the server folder as part of the installer. Here you will find the individual msi for each product such as SSRs , SSIS DTS etc, the bootstrap internally calls these msi's during installation. Try running these. There seems to be an issue with the boot strap file.

The issue was not with the installation folder, Don't know whats the exact thing in the background while installing but after the installation setup screen got disappeared.
I have checked in Control panel for installed components and that time i found one service was installed. Just i un-installed the SQL server Setup Support Files service and invoked the setup again every thing was successful.

My main concern when installing SQL Server is build consistency. I want the assurance that if the server had to be rebuilt then SQL Server would behave in exactly the same way after the rebuild as it did before the problem happened that caused the server to be rebuilt.
I never trust an uninstaller to totally and harmlessly uninstall a product. There is always a risk that following a new install then SQL Server might behave differently to what it would after a new build.
If I had received the request you had (uninstall followed by a reinstall), I would have insisted on getting a new Windows installation done instead of spending time uninstalling SQL. My best advice on how to fix your current problem and be certain you are not storing up some other problem for the future is: reformat the system drive and do a new Windows install.
