Free Webservice(s) to fetch city, country information

    Hi All,

    We have a database with tables for city/locations, state/area, Country and Region/Continent.

    Example of data entry is Sydney > NSW > Australia > Australia

    This is maintained by business users. However as the business is growing we want to automate the process. Is anyone using a web service or can point to webservices or APIs that provide such information. I have googled and found few sites but not sure which one to choose.

    Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

    Thank you for the link I did have a look at GeoNames but they seem to be giving a dump for cities - (Categorized based on city population), people and countries only.

    Just wanted to know if there is a webservice (paid/unpaid) that people are using in their database for cities, states and countries or a minor variation of this is also fine and probably I can think of customizing it for my company's needs.
