Replication with MS Access 2007 and Sql Server

  • I have a client who currently uses MS Access 2007. His employees us a MS Access application on PDA’s to collect data and then once the data is collected he needs an automated way to enter/update the data in the master database. I know MS Access no longer supports replication and I suggested the possibility of migrating to Sql Server for his master database.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to set up replication between MS Access and Sql Server?

Can someone recommend a possible solution or point me in the right direction to get the information I need?

    Thanks

  • SSIS package might be the way.

Never done this tho, no idea how easy / hard it can be.

  • Thanks,

I thought about SSI, but I need information on the replication aspect and if it can be done.

  • I was thinking more about a import package that merges the data on SQL Server.

Then maybe redownload everything to access if need be.

  • After doing some research I found out that Sql Server compact edition can be installed on a PDA. I also found out that Sql Server Express can only be a subscriber in replication.

I'm trying to figure out what I should reccommende to my client.

  • Stepping out... out of my league here.

    Good luck with this.

As a final not, a solution you feel competent in providing is always a good start...

I'm not sure if the statement marked bold is true...

As per this link ACCESS 2010 still support replication, as long as the mdb file format is used.

Disclaimer: I never used ACCESS replication nor am I planning to do so. It's just a result of a google search... 😉

  • Nice catch lutz!!

  • You can Create a Queries on SQL and then run the SSIS Package or u can use Bulk insert as well 🙂
