SQL 2008 R2 install fails

  • I have a Win7 x64 machine that I had SQL2008 running on. My only problem was the IntelliSense was not working. Nothing I did would fix it. So I decided to go the uninstall/reinstall route.

While the uninstall seemed to go fine. The reinstall has been a nightmare. I was having problems with a machine.config file. The install was saying the Access was Denied to this file. It was in the .NetFramework folder of windows. After a fighting with that I decided to do a repair of the OS.

After that finished I tried the install again and once I click Install on the "Setup Support Files" It does that and then goes no further.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Dave

Do you see any errors in your Windows eventlog?

  • Yes. Numerous errors about unable to open an XML file(machine.config). Said I didn't have rights.

Well after numerous attempts and removal of ALL SQL products. and some additonal hacking ofthe registry(including reversing CLSID entries), I've finally got it installed and working.

    The nightmare is over.

Thank you for sharing Dave! Maybe you could provide more details on how did you solve the problem so, if someone else have the same situation they could follow the steps you did. Thanks again.
