Hi there, I was looking into the possibility of setting up a document library on Sharepoint that could be used as a centralised "manual table" area where users can drop files needing to be uploaded to our DWH.
Our IT guys have been setting up necessary permissions etc but they have suggested that in order for SQL to access the file system, we would need to install the Desktop Experience service.
That feels real messy, the components installed according to this are:
Windows Calendar
Windows Mail
Windows Media Player
Windows Aero™ and other desktop themes
Video for Windows (AVI support)
Windows Photo Gallery
Windows SideShow™
Windows Defender
Disk Cleanup
Sync Center
Sound Recorder
Character Map
All this to get the WebDAV Redirector installed
I don't particular want to install all of this to resolve this, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how else I could resolve this?

Anyone have any suggestions? It would seem that the only solution is desktop experience but I can't bring myself to install all that on our servers!

Why in sharepoint and not a regular fileserver?

It would definitely be easier...it's simply a case of having a simple drop location for the end users...
