SQL 2008 Trial Version Instalation

  • Hi all, I'm preparing for MCTS exam and using the trial version for pratice. It is now expired and I needed to uninstall it and get it back again, but each time I tried, it failed with the message that other programs are running. How do I identify this and correct it please.

    Tnx

  • I feel bad putting it like this, but if you are fixing to take that test you ought to be able to handle it..

  • Shut down all the SQL programs. As Elliot said, if you can't do that, you're not prepared for the exam, or you should do some research.

I'd be happy to help, but I'd like to see you try a few things, and post them here if you can't figure it out.

  • Hey Erik,

I am newbie too.. 🙂 and have installed trial version to test SQL 2008. According to my knowledge you should first stop the services of the sql server and than try to uninstall.

    I think it should work.

    Thnx

  • Tnx all for your help and constructive criticisms. I have actually successfully ran the installation couple of times after taking on board the suggestions. But this time the Database Engine failed with a message "Wait on Database recovery handle failed"

    Kindly assist. tnx

In these cases, Google is typically your friend.

I won't go into the results I found re: your problem but I would suggest you google with the following

    phrase or similar

"Wait on Database recovery handle failed"

  • Which OS you are working on? and Which version of SQL you are installing.. ? This matters and might led you to that error message. Pls look on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx#EEIA64 for more information..
