Hello,
What's a good monitoring tool to monitor SQL server events, errors and performance.A web based monitoring software which does not affect server performance neither network performance and can show me errors in solutions like log shipping, mirroring, clustering,....?
I don't want to use local monitoring tools like sql server, performance monitor or windows event viewer,... Because I have many nodes in remote locations and want to monitor tham all, in a safe way.
I've been working with some monitoring softwares like solarwinds APM, but it's unable to gather a clustered server info.
I've also heard of some tools like redgate, but it affects the target server performance.
Is SCOM good for this purpose?

i use Idera. its pretty good. shows all the information i want at real time.
havent had an issue with it in terms of performance etc. i recently upgraded to their newest version and if anything responds better.

I'm curious what performance issues you've seen with Red Gate SQL Monitor?
I work for the company and we're constantly trying to improve the product. If you have some specific problems, I'd love to hear about them so we can address them and make it a better solution for you.

Most tools don't replace something like Replication Monitor. The tools do catch errors that are logged to the Error log in SQL Server.
I have heard good things about all of the tools at some point. SQL Monitor (from Red Gate) doesn't install anything on the local SQL Servers, but polls from a central server and then a web server displays that information, so it does work well remotely.
Some tools do install agents on a system, which has a larger overhead, but is not necessarily enough to cause a problem.
Disclosure: I work for Red Gate, but I would be curious if you have first hand knowledge, or have been told this by friends/co-workers. Is there something specific you've heard about any of these tools?
