windows cluster not responding. SQL Services down

  • we have a Win 2008 cluster active/active. users called in for connection issues. The windows cluster group is not pinging. I opened failover manager and couldn't find anything listed under it. The nodes are up. SQL Services are down. So do we need to wait for Windows cluster to be up and be able to see windows clustered and sql cluster groups and then bring sql cluster group online or can we start services of individual nodes if need be while windows cluster is being worked on?

  • The windows cluster group is not pinging.

Please focus on it. It’s IT Support’s job to make sure Server is up. We can start debugging for SQL Server thereafter.

If the windows cluster will not start, what is your cluster quorum model, are all cluster nodes up?

How cluster nodes are in the windows cluster?

  • is the windows cluster service started, without that you dont have a cluster and no cluster resources will start

  • Thank you.. was new to these servers, figured that the clustered resources Windows and SQL were down, reboot of both nodes resolved the issue

  • Reboot is a little drastic but if that works for you.
