I just tried adding a color to some text in another topic and used the color-picker from the menu buttons at the top of the text editor. I also made the text bold. I did NOT attempt to manually enter the HTML. Yet, what shows up is the actual inline style via "span" tag with "style" attribute. I will try a few others here as testing:
Take care,
Solomon...

Underline this text: I am underlined
This appears to work in the editor.

Underlining seems to be working here.

Underlining seems to be working here.
So it has been <span style="text-decoration: underline;">fixed</span>?
Edit: Nope, it isn't working here. How did you underline, Steve? BBCode works, but I used Ctrl+U
to do the underlining. If relevant (unlikely), I'm using Firefox 66 onย Windows 10.
Cheers.

I will click the text after the colon and then CTRL+U: Another underline test
Before I highlighted text and did CTRL+U. For this text, I will click CTRL+U and then type: underline this

I'm not sure what's happening here, but I posted the original test post from Chrome, Win 10, now from FF, win 10.

Odd. indeed. I see your text is underlined in the editor, but I bet it'll have <span>
wrapped around it after publishing. (I won't edit this afterwards, and the (dis)proof will be in the "pudding".

I will try my original test again, by highlighting text and then applying the style ( I am using Windows 10 -- Version 10.0.17763 Build 17763 and Chrome -- Version 73.0.3683.86 ):
<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Underline</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">RED</span>

I'll see if I have the same behaviour at home tonight; I'm running Ubuntu there (but still Firefox). Solomon has the the same build of Windows as I do, so the problem might lie there. Seems it isn't isn't the browser though as Solomon is using Chrome (and if i recall correctly Mozilla uses Gecko, not Chromium).
