Hi
Anybody know of a tool that generates awesome looking database diagrams? that doesn't put the scroll bars in like when you make one in SSMS.

I don't know if they can be classified as 'awesome', but these tools can make diagrams:
* Embarcadero
* ERStudio
* PowerDesigner
* MS Visio
(* MS Powerpoint)

Can those generate straight off the database?

Well, Powerpoint can't, but I think all the others have a reverse engineer function.
Check the product documentation, it will surely be mentioned somewhere.

I use Embarcadero ER Studio Data Architect, (one of the ones Koen mentioned).
It reverse engineers from a database and has a number of features that I like.

I'm a huge fan of Embarcadero's ERStudio. It's just an excellent piece of software. Yes, it generate the model straight off the database. You can also use it to design databases, even straight from the logical ER diagram to a physical model & then to a database.
It is rather expensive though.

Didn’t get any chance to work upon ER Studio but worked on Erwin, PowerDesigner & Visio. All are nice and offer almost same features.
•Model Merge
•Model Split
•Model Compare
•Model SYNC
•Data Dictionary
•Naming Conversions
•Reverse Engineering
•Forward Engineering etc.
But please keep in mind they are just tools and helps in Data Modeling. To create effective Data Models one should possess Data Modeling skills (ER & Dimensional).
Yup... All tools mentioned above are expensive. But freeware & open source tools are also available.
