Hello Gurus,
Last night I applied SP4 to my SQL 2005 SP3, all the components succeeded except "database services", the error says one database file could not be found, the database has already been taken offline, mdf file removed. I then renamed another database to this db and copied the mdf to the server. And I perform the upgrade again, I woke up this morning and see the same error message with a different missing database file.
I believe the SP4 is looking for all the database files even if the database is offline (I should have removed the DBs completely before the upgrade). As a result, because I have more than one DB offline, I need to do the painful process again and again, and get all the missing mdf there.
But shouldn't there be smarter way to do this?
Please help. This is a production server, if I can't recover it, I have to set up a new server, but I only have a SQL 2005 Express, I am not sure if that works with backup from SQL 2005 SP3.

Finally issue was resolved: I created some fake database files according to the errorlog, "database services" was able to be installed, server is up now. Thanks God it is such a pain.
