We have disk upgrade activity in which logshipping is configured on one databse . what are the steps needed to taken from DB side ?

    Thanks

    what is actually happening?

is a new drive being created for you to move the log shipped database too?

is the existing drive being increased in size?

depending on what is happening depends on what you need to do, but I would always take a full backup of the database before the upgrade happens to ensure you can go back to the point of the upgrade quickly without having to restore all your logs.

  • the existing drive is going to increase. can we disable the logshipping jobs in primary server where the disk upgradtaion is doing before stopping teh sql agent services and restart the jobs after the upgrartion is done

  • you should be ok to just continue as normal if the capacity is being increased it should have minimal impact on SQL as I've had to increase data drives on the SAN a number of times in a logshipping environment with no issues.

have you split the files out so ldf and mdf are on different drives? which drive is increasing the mdf or ldf? if it is your ldf and your worried then just disable the job while the upgrade is in progress then restart the job once done, there is no need to completly stop the agent.

just to be on the safe side i would check your backups are restorable before doing anything just in the worst case that if anything does go wrong you know you can get the data back.
