We would like to set up a new reporting server 2008.
Any one has any recommendation for hardware specifications?
Also is there a way I can find out for a existing server, the drives are physical drive or SAN drive by login to the server OS?
Thanks

Well.. That's kind of a loaded question 🙂 How many reports? How many people accessing it? Applications accessing it or just individuals? Will the reporting dbs be hosted on that server, or a separate one?
Thanks,

As Jared said - we need a lot more info to answer that question. The reporting server needs to be built according to your reporting requirements.

Thanks.
I will do an estimate of the reports and find out.

I don't get it do you have access to the existing box? look at it in the back does it have fibre running to another server?
Is it a windows OS? 2008, 2003?
Anyway, you can go to computer management by getting to the run command type compmgmt.msc hit the enter key
then go to the storage section and go to disk management.
that will tell you the physical drives on the comp.
Still rather know lots more?
like what's the OS and it better be 64bit if you're using it for a lot of users if your using windows. SQL is a RAM hog and your limited to 4gb with 32bit
