Transactional Replication error found in Windows Application Event Log

  • Replication-Replication Distribution Subsystem: agent NAS2-MSSQL1-COREISSUE-CI_PUB_TABLES-NAS2-DBR-12 failed. Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 2 for page (3:4228724), database ID 18.

I checked the replication monitor for the database above...and it was a little behind but it is running (i.e the latency is going down). Never seen this error before. Replication has been running on this server for nearly a year...

Does anyone know what the cause means and how to resolve?

  • As you said the replication was running fine since a year so I assume there is no procedural issue in it. I guess there is some issue with the page (may be corruption) which is causing this latch. It’s worth a try to recover the torn pages.

  • The issue was actually related to several consistency errors on a non-clustered index on the replicated data. All way needed was to drop the index and recreate it everything else cleared itself up.

Very strange. Sometimes you have to wonder how MS decides to generate an error message...
