Hi all,
I've been looking into finding the ideal HBA queue depth settings for a newly built SQL 2008 server and I'm having trouble deciding what tool I should use to base my results around. So far I've seen articles saying to use SQLIOSim (even though this is more a stability / stress tool) & SQL IO.
Has anyone tuned this setting before.. Which tool did you use ?

consult your HBA manufacturer, this should be tuned with caution. It can provide increases in performance but can also result in the reverse to

It's a Qlogic HBA with a default setting of 16.
I've changed this to 32 (nothing too drastic) and I can see an increase in throughput on SQL IO and a decrease in the no. of block requests on SQL IO Sim. The SQL IO results suggest I should increase the queue depth, however SQL IO Sim states a case for leaving it at 16, hence why I'm asking the question.
I'm fully aware of the impact this can have on other hosts connected so I'm treading careful when I'm doing this

test it all the way but i certainly wouldnt set it any higher than 64 at most

So, for testing purposes, would you use the results from SQL IO Sim or SQL IO ?
