Can I create SQL Server Cluster without AD/DNS.

  • Can I create SQL Server Cluster without AD/DNS.

Machines will be in workgroup and no domain user.

If not I want this confirmation information page from Microsoft website?

    Can help

    Thanks

  • I'm sorry, you need AD and DNS to build a cluster.

I can't find a MSDN KB to point you to, but I'm sure it is so. Try google that and see what pops out.

Computer accounts and domain assignment for cluster nodes

Make sure that the cluster nodes all have computer accounts in the same domain. Cluster nodes cannot be in a workgroup.

  • clustering requires AD and AD is dependant upon DNS, they are all tied very neatly together.

Just out of interest, why do you ask if you can implement clustering without these in place?

  • Thanks Perry I have asked it just for knowledge.

    Thanks
