Install 2008 R2, but not on C drive ?

  • I started installing SQL 2008 R2, and when I get to the "Instance Configuration" screen, I can point the "Instance Root Directory" to my F drive.

However the next screen "Disk Space Requirements" tells me I still need some space available on C. Is there any way to avoid using the C drive ?

This thread I found says "no", but I was hoping that maybe it's old information and the current version has a way ?

    Question #2

Assuming I must use 'C', If I install a 2nd instance of 2008, will I need additional space on 'C', or will it share files from the first instance ?

EDIT: Ooops. meant to post in 2008 Forum.

  • No.

Some components are required to be on C.
