After :
- stopping DTC service;
- msdtc -uninstall
- msdtc -install
- restarting DTC service;
- enabling DTC network access under "Local DTC properties" (and enabling anything there)
I am still getting the MSDTC unavailable error message ....
Msg 8501, Level 16, State 3, Line 3
MSDTC on server '....' is unavailable.
Is there anything else that I am missing here ???
PS - any firewall is disabled and the server is not part of a cluster - I am trying to run DTC from a different machine (located on a different domain...)

I found the answer - it is pretty simple - just restarting the sql service fixed the problem...

i literally have resurrected my sqlserver central account for this.
thanks for this answer! i have tried like everything you mentioned, and even wrote me a testprogram to test it myself as dtcping was working successfully but all the sqlrelated transactions run into an exception. sqlserver restart worked...
one more time, thanks for the simple answer 🙂
