I have been tasked to migrate our SQL databases from 2005 to 2008. I searched and couldnt find anything with the basic steps. I start my testing next week in our test enviroment. But was looking for a few pointers when I start. I ran the upgrade advisor already and am working on those notes. This is the first time I have been tasked with a project like this on my own. Any steps or pointers would be great. I know its not as simple as putting the disk in.

First, go to the Microsoft and get the 2008 Upgrade Advisor. Run it against your 2005 database. If there are any major issues, it will identify them. Otherwise, it's an upgrade. Side-by-side upgrades are the safest. Do lots of testing. That's it.

Make sure you have backups, test lots as Grant noted (run your application against an upgraded database ), and follow the Upgrade Advisor.
