I recently tried to install the latest update (KB2507770) for SQL Server 2008 R2 (Developer) running under Windws 7 (SP1) 64-bit and it failed, daying that a previous failure was detected. I wasn't aware of any failed, but I have installed the latest cumulative update as well, so, since it's a recent installation and I'm not currently using it for anything critical, I decided to do an uninstall and install. I remove both instances that existed and the shared tools and then reinstalled everything for the default instance.
And it still fails! I've tried a repair, but it doesn't make any difference. Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this (other than just ignoring installing KB2507770!).
The full text of the SQL Server Setup failure is:
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair during configuration for features
[SQL_DTS_Full,SQL_SSM S_Full,SQL_SSMS_Adv,SQL_PowerShell_Tools_ANS,]. In order to apply this
patch package(KB2507770), you must resolve any issues with the previous operation that failed.
View the summary.txt log to determine why the previous operation failed.
Error code 0x84820001.
BTW, I can't find any relevant summary.txt file.
Thanks.

I eventually did a remove/re-install then updated to Service Pack 1, which bypassed the need to install this update.
