Hi *all
Last week we installed an SQLServer 2008 R2 instance on a server.
The installation was possible without any problems.
SQLServer 2008, SQLServer 2008R2 and SQLServer 2000 are installed on the same server and can be started as needed.
After this installation i also wanted to install SQL Server 2008 R2 on my notebook.
On the notebook SQL2k5, SQL2k8 are installed and started manually when needed.
The installation give's an unhandled exception error and stops. SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed, but the client-tools are missing.
I uninstalled SQL Server 2008 R2 and tried to install only the client tools..... same result.
The log is 13 MB, too big to post.
The error comes from this module: "trin_aide.msi"
After that the client tools of SQL Server 2008 are not running anymore.
I reinstalled the client tools for SQL Server2008 and had to insert the SQL Server 2008 R2 disk....
Finally this runs again.
Any idea how to come around this error ?
Thank's for any help.
Below a short part of the log.
Regards,
Marc

I'd call Microsoft on that one.

Someone on MS Connect posted that reinstalling .net framework 3.5.1 resolved this. I'd give that a shot.

Thank You for the answers.
Nothing helped.
.net 3.51 could not be reinstalled, it's now gone...
I made a repair installation of .net 4.0.
Allways the same error when removing temporary files.
Maybe switch to a virtual machine for the many SQLServer versions is an option.

Marc
