It's definitely a question to make you think. For example, is all DRI in place? Does it temporarily need to be overridden? Is there a "backout" plan if something goes horribly wrong? Are you moving the whole server or is the Testing Server just a "staging area" for testing and the individual procs and tables will need to be promoted to the "online server". If there are new tables to replace old tables, what is the migration plan? Is there any GUI code that will be affected? Are there required changes in nightly maintenance? Etc, etc, etc.

How much experience do you have as a DBA and what position was this interview for? I get the impression you've never done code deployment before.

People write entire books about such things which is, obviously, much more than you could learn from my simple forum post. My recommendation would be to start with Google on the "Duties of DBA" especially if you're considering it as a career path. Perhaps even take a course on the subject.

You'll also find that many people (I'm actually one of those people) don't like to help with interview questions. The reason is that if we were doing the interview, we wouldn't want someone who had simply memorized a bunch of canned answers. We would actually want someone who had done the work and knew the answers.

If you change your line of questioning as to where you can learn SQL and which courses you may be able to invest a little time in, then I'm sure people will be happy to jump in.

If you're already involved in a dev team, I recommend you ask the folks responsible for deployment.
