Im afraid that upgrading SBS/SS2K5 to Windows 2008 and SS2K8R2 has a gap involving unmigrated legacy dts packages because the ss2k5 that shipped with sbs
(Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.5057.00 (Intel X86) Mar 25 2011 13:50:04 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Workgroup Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
did not include ssis, so they have been running unmigrated dts pkgs under the legacy folder.
More ram is getting added to the sever, the os is getting changed to windows server 2008 and sql server 2008 R2 is getting installed, but the packages are still unmigrated dts.
Once the .dts files are copied over to the new installation, will the dts packages be operable in the new environment?
Will whatever is scriptable out of them be movalbe into BIDS once its installed so we can convert them to proper ssis packages?
thanks very much

I apologize that this post is of no help in solving your problem other than maybe "bumping" your post for you. I just wanted to make the observation that this is yet another reason why I try to do as much as possible using only T-SQL. Even advertised and supported features such as DTS really take it in the shorts when new revisions of SQL Server come out.

DTS still works in SQL 2008. May not in the next version...
They're not openable in BIDs, download the DTS designer from the resource pack site and you can open them in Management Studio.

There is some extra configuration you must do on SQL 2008 R2 to get DTS Designer work - some files must be copied but this is all documented in BOL.
I also advise you download the free 'DTS Backup 2000' to help move your DTS packages. It is the only method I know of that maintains the DTS designer layout and annotations during the move process. The standard Microsoft export/import looses both of these.
