Hello,
I had SQL Server Express installed on my development box when I installed Visual Studio 2010.
I then upgraded to the R2 version but after this I have continually had problems connecting. As a last resort I uninstalled everything that had anything to do with SQL server and have attempted a fresh build.
Now I am getting a failure to install with the following error..
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name : doc.
Can anyone offer me a pointer to a solution ?
Thanks,
Peter

Most likely you did not completely uninstall SQL Server. There are numerous sites if you do a Google search that go into great detail of exactly what and where you need to install from (most likely you have a registry record that did not clear).
Good luck

My solution has been to rebuild the OS as I found cleaning the registry a pain.
Why Microsoft can't write code to cleanup after them selves I am not sure.
