2008 Servers RAID configuration - HP Proliant DL380G6

  • I have SQL 2008 servers. I have researched which RAID config to use, and decided to go with RAID-1.

This is since speed is not a major issue, while data protection is.

My question is: Once you setup RAID-1. Say later on, you get a HD failure. What do you have to do to recover?

    Thanks,

  • If a drive fails you would need to replace the drive and rebuild your raid array using the RAID console.

  • With RAID 1, when you have a HD failure, the other HD continues to function as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. What you need to do is:

    1 Order a new HD

    2 Shut down the server

    3 Replace the failed HD

    4 Power up the server

The RAID controller will automatically recreate your RAID 1.

  • Great. Thanks for the clarification.

  • You welcome

  • with raid 1, you have tolerance fail!!!
