Restore slowdown

  • Hi all,

There are 3 of developers here in my office. Two of them can restore a database (4GB compressed backup) in 20-25 min. I take over 2 hours. I am running Windows 7. They are running XP and Vista. We all are running SQL Server 2008 R2 developer edition. Also, they are running regular SATA drives. I have a solid state drive.

Any ideas of what I can look for to speed up my restore?

    Thank you.

  • You might want to check whether you have the "Perform volume maintenance tasks" user right in Windows, found in the "Local Security Policy" MMC snap-in, Local Policies, User Rights Assignment.

The location of the Backup file can have an adverse impact on performance.
