With the air conditioning just having gone out in our server room, I can rest comfortably knowing my data is backed up off site; however, what about "Jobs". I have lots of jobs I sure would not want to recreate. What's the best way to back those up?

well they would be in your backup of msdb.
you could also use SSMS to script them out to file, and use your offsiting process to include those scripts.
It's a good idea to script out as much as you can from the system databases to give yourself another way of recreating those objects in a disaster.

Hmm, my backup of msdb. Glad I asked because I wasn't baking that up! So I added a new backup plan for master, model, and msdb.
I guess I should probably script out jobs too. Just in case. Thanks!

always, always, backup your system databases. Difficult to recover a SQL instance without them.

Got it. Thanks! Fortunately (knock really hard on wood) I've never been bit by that one. I've had to rely on my backup many times, but in all those cases simply having a backup of the user db was good enough. My thinking has been that if I lose the server, find/build another one and restore the user db.
I won't take the sys db's for granted anymore though. I will start making them part of my backup strategy immediately.
