  I am trying to connect to a SS 2008 R2 instance (10.50.1600) from a SS 2005 Instance (9.0.3080) but i am getting following error.

  "This version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio can only be used to connect to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 servers"

  Anyone know how to fix this?

  Uninstall the SQL Server 2005 SSMS (Client tools), and install the SQL Server 2008 version. SSMS 2005 is only backward compatible.

  The SQL 2008 version can connect to SQL 2005.
