Wondering if i can get peoples opinion on backing up olap cubes - its nice to have a backup - but as the data gets refreshed daily, do I really need to backup daily - i figure that a restore from a week ago would be fine, because the cube would get processed and the data overwritten anyway.. with the only exception being that any changes to the structure would be lost (which shouldn't happen anyway).
So I guess in a round about way I'm asking - is it worth backing up an olap cube db on a regular basis, or only after changes are made?
Thanks

As you say only the definitions are really needed. We're fortunate that our MOLAP cubes are on a drive that gets backed up by our network guys. I dunno, maybe you just remember to script it each time a change is made.

Thanks Ken - the definitions should never change (haha.. in a perfect world without them darn users) - but making sure its backed up after each change should be enough.. on second thoughts.. that'll get forgotten.. backup on change and maybe once a week for good measure 😉
