SQL Server 2008 installation fails on windows XP

  • SQL Server 2008 DEV edition

    Windows XP sp3.

I have been trying to install for past two days each time it fails with the following error:

Account name is invalid or does not exists or the Password is invalid for the account specified.

I did have added my NT id to admin group, full permission on micorsoft folder is registry, cleaned all the earlier installation and restared but no use.

    Windows event log says:

The description for Event ID ( 1042 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: D:\Installables\too\x86\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_loc_msi\1033\sql_engine_core_inst_loc.msi, 4260, (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), , .

    Please help me out here.
